Grand Teton National Park
Three hundred and ten thousand acres of mountains rising straight out of the valley floor with no foothills to soften them.
What to know
The Moose entrance is nine minutes from the lodge, which means you can be at the Jenny Lake trailhead before most visitors have finished breakfast in town. Jenny Lake, Taggart Lake and the Cascade Canyon trail are the three walks we send first-timers to, in that order.
For wildlife, Antelope Flats and Mormon Row at dawn are reliable for bison and pronghorn, and Oxbow Bend at first light is the postcard shot of Mount Moran with mist on the water. Our naturalist runs a dawn drive that covers all three.
The park road between Taggart and Signal Mountain closes to cars from November to May and opens to bicycles in April, which is the single best spring morning available in this valley.
